Gotham TV Awards: ‘Big Mistakes,’ ‘Death by Lightning’ Lead Nominations

The Gotham TV Awards have revealed this year’s nominees, with Big Mistakes and Death by Lightning leading the way with four nods.

A number of series landed three nominations apiece including I Love LA, Beef, DTF St. Louis, Alien: Earth and Pluribus.

Big Mistakes is nominated for breakthrough comedy series and scored two noms for lead performance in a comedy series (Dan Levy and Taylor Ortega) and one for supporting performance in a comedy series (Laurie Metcalf). Death by Lightning is nominated for best limited or anthology series, two nominations for lead performance in a limited or anthology series (Matthew Macfadyen and Michael Shannon) and supporting performance in a limited series (Nick Offerman).

Big Mistakes and I Love LA are both nominated for breakthrough comedy series alongside The Chair Company, Long Story Short and Too MuchI Love LA is also nominated for lead performance in a comedy series (Rachel Sennott) and supporting performance in a comedy series (Odessa A’zion).

Alien: Earth and Pluribus are nominated for breakthrough drama series alongside A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Dept. Q and Task. Both Alien: Earth and Pluribus additionally landed nominations in the lead (Sydney Chandler for Alien: Earth and Rhea Seehorn for Pluribus) and supporting performance (Babou Ceesay for Alien: Earth and Karolina Wydra for Pluribus) in a drama series categories.

Death by Lightning, Beef and DTF St. Louis are nominated for best limited or anthology series along with Half Man and Lord of the FliesBeef is nominated for lead (Carey Mulligan) and supporting (Cailee Spaeny) performance in a limited series, and DTF St. Louis landed two supporting limited series performance nominations for Linda Cardellini and David Harbour.

“With today’s nominations, our third annual Gotham Television Awards celebrates an incredible year of breakthrough comedies, dramas and original films, as well as a newly expanded limited or anthology series category recognizing where some of television’s boldest work is being made,” The Gotham executive director Jeffrey Sharp said in a statement. “As the first awards show of the new television season, we’re proud to bring together the industry’s most exciting voices, celebrate the year’s achievements and deepen our commitment to supporting the creative community we represent here at The Gotham.”

The first season of Beef swept the TV categories at the 2023 Gotham Awards, winning breakthrough series under 40 minutes and outstanding performance in a new series (Ali Wong, who beat out her onscreen counterpart Steven Yeun).

The 2026 Gotham TV Awards, the third year in which the Gotham Awards have broken out TV honors with a separate ceremony during Emmys season, is set for June 1 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York.

It was previously announced that Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer will receive the visionary tribute at this year’s ceremony. Additional honorees will be announced in the coming weeks.

Full disclosure: The Hollywood Reporter‘s chief TV critic Dan Fienberg was part of the nominating committee for outstanding limited or anthology series and outstanding performance in limited series, and TV critic Angie Han was part of the nominating committee for breakthrough drama series and outstanding performance in a drama series.
