Travis Knight is directing Amazon MGM’s feature based on the Mattel toyline first introduced in the 1980s.

He-Man’s royal parents have been found.

James Purefoy and Charlotte Riley have been cast as King Randor and Queen Marlena in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films’ live-action take on Masters of the Universe.

Travis Knight is directing the feature that Amazon MGM plans on releasing theatrically worldwide June 5, 2026.

Based on the quintessential toyline first launched in the 1980s and the popular cartoon of the same era, the concept centers on the character of Prince Adam of Eternia who, thanks to his Power Sword, turns into the muscular He-Man and is imbued with superhuman strength and abilities. With his assortment of allies, he defends the planet from the evil Skeletor and his armies.

Nicholas Galitzine is the sword-wielding prince while Jared Leto is on board as Skeletor, an evil sorcerer looking for secrets of the mysterious Castle Grayskull.

Also on the call sheet are Camla Mendes as Teela, Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm/Fisto, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Manand Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops.

In Masters of the Universe lore, King Randor has no clue that his son turns into the heroic He-Man, believing him to be lazy for seemingly shirking his duties. The Queen, however, develops a few suspicions.

The script is by Chris Butler with an initial draft written by David Callaham, and Aaron and Adam Nee. Escape Artists and Mattel Films are producing.

Purefoy is a veteran English actor best known for his roles in the award-winning HBO series Rome and The Following opposite Kevin Bacon, and recently appeared with Elisabeth Moss in Hulu’s The Veil. He is repped by CAA Linden, and Independent Talent Group.

Riley is an English actress who has appeared in London Has FallenEdge of Tomorrow, and TV’s Peaky Blinders. She will next be seen starring in Stefan Golaszewski’s drama series Babies for the BBC. She is repped by CVGG.
